Chapter 6: Growing Through Experience

Concrete Experience

This week, I was able to list my priorities, which will allow me to use my time wisely and complete all my requirements. Every morning and afternoon we have a Zumba session at the office to help us stay active and energized. I also took the initiative to politely ask my co-interns to teach me how to operate the Xerox machine so I could assist with office tasks. Additionally, we secured our IDs this week.

I was assigned to the receiving section and also tasked with forwarding letters and documents to different offices. I listened carefully to the instructions and asked for clarification when necessary to ensure everything was clear.

Sir Droy instructed us regarding our requirements so that we will be able to comply by the end of the required internship hours. He required us to prepare a project proposal and conduct historical research on the Sinulog Festival of Barangay Bula.

Reflective Observation

I noticed that everyone in the office was busy, especially with the preparations for the Batang Pinoy Games since it was already October. Since I couldn’t find a way to help at first, I decided to ask for instructions on how to operate the Xerox machine so that I could at least help them in some way. I realized that by taking the initiative to learn, I can make my day more productive, gain new skills, and make myself useful in the office. During times when I don’t have any assigned tasks, I also make use of the opportunity to edit my thesis and work on my assignments and reports.

Abstract Conceptualization

This experience reflects Self-Directed Learning Theory by Malcolm Knowles, as I took the initiative to learn without being told to do so. It shows my ability to identify learning opportunities, take responsibility for my own development.

Future Application

I learned the importance of taking initiative and being proactive. I will continue to practice self-development and remain consistent in improving myself through mindful actions and continuous learning.
