Chapter 3: Sticking with It
Concrete Experience
This week, I prepared the documents needed. On September 10 (Wednesday), I attended a one-on-one interview where I shared my three preferred HTEs and explained my choices. On September 13, Ma’am Hannee released the official list, and I was thankful to see that I was placed in one of my top three choices which is the City Economic Management and Cooperative Development Office (CEMCDO). I feel excited about the experience and look forward to what I can learn and contribute there.
Reflective Observation
During the conversation with Ma’am Hannee, I was listening to her advice, and the time she checked my resume and noticed that I lacked experience, she asked me, “Nag-unsa ra dyud diay ka?” It stuck in my mind, and even when I go home, I still recall it. I have many realizations after the interview. I realized I have a lot of opportunities wasted, especially the event about geotagging and events, seminars, advocacies, etc., that I may have been able to join but I didn't. I realized I am able to take action and do something about it, and that there's always room for improvement, and I am grateful for this opportunity that Maam Hannee gave me.
Abstract Conceptualization
My experience relates to Kolb’s Experiential Learning Theory, which explains that we learn better when we reflect on our experiences and apply them to improve. I realized that by not joining past seminars and events, I missed chances to learn. This also connects to the concept of agency, or the ability of a person to make choices and act. In history where people or groups make changes, I can also take action to improve myself.
Future Application
I will grab opportunities and help myself improve. I will make the most out of this opportunity at CEMCDO by being active and learning as much as I can.
