Chapter 6: Growing Through Experience

Image
Concrete Experience   This week, I was able to list my priorities, which will allow me to use my time wisely and complete all my requirements. Every morning and afternoon we have a Zumba session at the office to help us stay active and energized. I also took the initiative to politely ask my co-interns to teach me how to operate the Xerox machine so I could assist with office tasks. Additionally, we secured our IDs this week.  I was assigned to the receiving section and also tasked with forwarding letters and documents to different offices. I listened carefully to the instructions and asked for clarification when necessary to ensure everything was clear.  Sir Droy instructed us regarding our requirements so that we will be able to comply by the end of the required internship hours. He required us to prepare a project proposal and conduct historical research on the Sinulog Festival of Barangay Bula.  Reflective Observation  I noticed that everyone in the office w...

Chapter 5: When Things Get Really Interesting

Concrete Experience  This week was challenging for me, and I was quite nervous. On the day of deployment, I arrived early to avoid heavy traffic and waited for my co-interns so we could go to the office as a group following our scheduled orientation. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by Ma'am Aarnn, who oriented us on the office rules, the events we'd be assisting with, and also asked about our class schedules. After the orientation, we socialized with our fellow interns from the STI College Tourism Management program and helped them to prepare the souvenirs to be given for the delegates arriving the following day. Just as we were about to leave, Sir Droy arrived. We had a brief conversation where he invited us to the event the next day at the City Mayor's Office, Kastifun Hall. He advised us to wear business casual attire for the event and also discussed other upcoming events, including Batang Pinoy in October and Paskuhan sa Gensan in December.  On Friday, September...

Chapter 4: Finding the Rhythm

Concrete Experience   On the day the official list was released, I prepared my documents to be submitted on Monday. I went to school as early as possible to submit my journal. All of us were busy organizing our papers. The documents will be submitted as a group since Ma’am Hannee will have further instructions and announcements to discuss with each group. I started to panic because one of our group members I'd never seen that day. Luckily, I was able to contact her, and she was already done preparing her documents. We waited outside the department for our turn.  Reflective Observation   I noticed that everyone is busy preparing their documents. I realized that it is also happening at the workplace. I reflect on how I organize and manage my time. I realized that it is important to prepare things ahead of time to avoid last-minute panic.  Abstract Conceptualization  I noticed that preparing documents early relates to the article “Time Management: Test of a Process...

Chapter 3: Sticking with It

Concrete Experience  This week, I prepared the documents needed. On September 10 (Wednesday), I attended a one-on-one interview where I shared my three preferred HTEs and explained my choices. On September 13, Ma’am Hannee released the official list, and I was thankful to see that I was placed in one of my top three choices which is the City Economic Management and Cooperative Development Office (CEMCDO). I feel excited about the experience and look forward to what I can learn and contribute there.  Reflective Observation  During the conversation with Ma’am Hannee, I was listening to her advice, and the time she checked my resume and noticed that I lacked experience, she asked me, “Nag-unsa ra dyud diay ka?” It stuck in my mind, and even when I go home, I still recall it. I have many realizations after the interview. I realized I have a lot of opportunities wasted, especially the event about geotagging and events, seminars, advocacies, etc., that I may have been able to j...

Chapter 2: Hitting the First Challenge

Image
Concrete Experience   I attended a practicum class and a seminar about R.A. 11313, also known as the Bawal Bastos Law, at the College of Education. I arrived early with my friends at the parking lot. We waited for Ma’am Hannee to arrive since we didn’t know which classroom we would be using. When she arrived, we followed her, and the classroom was already well-prepared for us. The chairs were organized. Ma’am Hannee started the class by checking attendance. She discussed the do’s and don’ts we should remember as we prepare for our on-the-job training (OJT) and shared tips that could really help us. She discussed the different learning styles and MBTI personality and also taught us how to write a resume and cover letter and announced that we are having an interview next week September 10, 2025, Wednesday.  After Ma’am Hannee’s discussion, Ma’am Ruhama arrived and conducted a seminar on R.A. 11313, the Bawal Bastos Law. She started the session with a fun icebreaker to make every...

Chapter 1: The Journey Begins

Image
As a student of Bachelor of Arts in History, I am hoping to have my internship in Local Government Units here in General Santos, especially in City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) and City Economic Management and Cooperative Development Office (CEMCDO), since I believe it will provide me the chance to experience how the local government works. The knowledge about how projects for the environment, culture, and community development are planned and executed, and how these contribute to the growth of the city and the lives of its people. What I hope to gain from this experience is not only practical knowledge but also the discipline and values that come with public service. I want to learn how to work with different people, improve my research and communication skills, and explore myself on how I am able to use what I have learned. I expect this internship to help me grow both personally and professionally. It will give me confidence, teach me responsibility, and prepare ...
